The Green Party
So yeah, I am going to go with my friend Skye to this Green Party thing. I have no idea what the Green Party are, or where they stand. Not only that but I am expected to do a news article on them. This does suck. So where do I begin.
My first thoughts on the Green Party are:
Are you the Marijuana Party? (must be my age group but I kinda think anything green has to do with marijuana)
People actually support the Green Party?
Mike Harris is a Green Party member? (Although after the intial shock, my friend Adam explained there was another Mike Harris. My next question was if he was a pot head. Nope, he is a big businessman.)
What exactly is the point of a Green Party in Canada?
The first time I met the green Party was way back in 2003. And even then I thought they were a bunch of fools from one of the intros of shakespeare's plays.
I could win a contest if I create a design! wow a solar powered radio!!!! oh wait, I don't want that. Are they all just hippies or something?
so basically the Green Parties platform is as follows:
| | Making wise investments for better health, better education and clean energy. |
| | Ending subsidies that result in more pollution and increased health risks. |
| | Creating "green collar" jobs for Canadians. |
| | Opposing an Anti-Ballistic Missile Defense system on Canadian soil. |
The first platform objective: I dunno, I kinda like how the Liberals can stronghold themselves into office most of the time. The system has worked for the longest time, why change it now?
The second platform objective: uhmm what exactly constitutes "Wise Investments"
The third platform: Huh?
The fourth platform: What the heck are green collar jobs?!?!?!
The fifth platform: I doubt we would see that happen in Canada. We are already too much oppose to that, and the Liberals will make sure it doesn't happen.
So basically I think the Green Party is:
A bunch of tree hugging, pot or hash toking, save the earth hippies. I understand somewhat why they are not that popular in Canada, perhaps they would be better suited for the Netherlands... or maybe Russia (if they ever get over their Marxist dreams). Sure they are growing up as a party, sure they are more known today. But I really do not see them going toe to toe with the Conservatives or Liberals. They can't even compete with the NDP! Sure I believe in nature and the environment, but perhaps they should impose a new platform that is more feasibly attainable.
Or is that my two cents?
